The Digital Academy focuses on creating innovative digital products in Africa.
Launched in response to a frustrating lack of digital skills on the continent, our vision is to create opportunities for youth through incentive-based learning with strategic corporate partners who share a common vision.
Our interns learn practical, hands-on development skills that are needed in the real world whilst building commercial facing products via a rapid internship programme.
We embrace tried-and-tested industry standards & ground-breaking technologies. Interns are urged to learn whatever they are passionate about. Regular talks and training sessions are conducted to keep the interns informed on innovative technologies.
We focus on building products with commercial intent. Interns will undertake projects that matter to organisations, creating products that are useful in a commercial environment and that have the potential to be of economic benefit in the digital economy.
We believe that in order to master a skill, it needs to be used. The Digital Academy focuses on providing a practical learning environment in which interns are divided into competitive teams to solve real-world problems.

Working in a group has made me understand group dynamics whilst dealing with different personalities and resolving some issues faced in the project process. Being a part of The Digital Academy has opened my mind. I love the learning environment and openness to creativity.
I was not exposed to the IT industry previously, but now I am proud to call myself an IT developer because of the knowledge, experience and support I received at The Digital Academy.
This has been an amazing yet challenging journey. I learned a lot from The Digital Academy team leaders. We had unlimited access to resources (such as tutorials and WiFi). They up-skilled me as an individual, and now I can code in PHP, HTML, JQuery and MySQL. We are not only surrounded by a group of intelligent developers, but the atmosphere itself is amazing.
While being at The Digital Academy I experienced a lot, both in personal and professional growth. I grew in terms of knowing what I want in my life and found exactly what my strengths and weaknesses are. I have acquired more skills such as java, and a bit of designing in Adobe Illustrator, which I never even knew before.
Joining The Digital Academy was the best decision I made for my career as a developer, especially since I was fresh from varsity. The academy gives you a taste of how everything is going to be and what you should expect in your career as a developer. I really wish everyone could start at the academy to kick-start their own career in development.
We won’t leave anyone behind. Self-taught coders are welcome to apply as long as they can demonstrate some level of programming experience.
